About Us
The Center of Excellence for Water was established in 2019 at The American University in Cairo AUC. Being funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), this project was initiated to elevate water research and academia in Egypt. By strengthening water engineering programs and fostering innovative applied research, the Center strives to create a lasting positive impact.
The Center’s main long-term premise is in Alexandria University. Its main academic partners include five Egyptian universities (Ain Shams, Alexandria, Aswan, Beni Suef, and Zagazig Universities) and five U.S. universities (University of California at Santa Cruz, Temple University, Utah State University, Washington State University, and The American University in Cairo).

Catalyze long-term improvement in Egypt’s water resources management and support the government to face water challenges by improving its innovative applied research and education enterprise and preparing a generation of graduates and entrepreneurs to be change agents that stimulate economic growth.
Partners
The Center of Excellence for Water has formed alliances with universities in Egypt and the United States of America, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the U.S. government, along with The American University in Cairo (AUC), the executing agency for the USAID grant.
The Center of Excellence for Water is a state-of-the-art project that raises the quality of all aspects of higher education. Hence, it encompasses five main pillars including Governance, Instructional Innovation and Curriculum Development, High Quality Applied Research, Exchange, Training, and Scholarships, and Sustainability.
