Universities

The Center of Excellence for Water has partnering universities in Egypt and the United States of America, partners in the private and public sector; along with the American University in Cairo, the implementing agency of the US-AID grant.

1. Ain Shams University:

Ain Shams University, as the third Egyptian university, was founded in July 1950 under the name of ‘Ibrahim Pasha University’. It participated with the two earlier universities, ‘Cairo University’ (Fua’d the 1st) and ‘Alexandria University’ (Farouk the 1st) in fulfilling the message of universities and meeting the increasing demand of youth for higher education. Ain Shams University is an educational, research and service institution that adopts innovation and qualifies, academically and skillfully, graduates capable of competing in the labor market and community service in accordance with international developments.

2. Alexandria University

In 1938, the nucleus of the Alexandria University (formerly known as Farouk University) had its beginning in the form of two faculties of Fouad the First University. In the light of the need for developing more disciplines for higher learning and with a view towards meeting the need of the people of Alexandria, Alexandria University became a separate entity in August 1942. In 1952, it became “Alexandria University”. Since then, the University witnessed growth and expansion in several fields: the number of Faculties and high institutes increased to 22. The University aims to achieve a comprehensive qualitative leap in various fields of knowledge within a frame work of noble human values, enabling it to take a leading position in its national, Arab, African, Mediterranean and global environments.

3. Aswan University

Aswan University first opened its doors as a branch of Assuit University in 1976.After becoming a part of the new South Valley University in 1995, Aswan University was established as an independent institution in its own right in 2012.The institution is dedicated to providing teaching in a wide range of subjects, including education, social work, engineering, agriculture and archaeology among many others. Aswan University is committed to providing the best education and research services opportunities to the students and the larger community with a level of quality comparable to the regional and international standards and providing an education based on scientific research to encourage students doing their utmost to become experienced graduates qualified for the changing circumstance. Aswan University is enrolled among the best 300 Universities in Achieving Sustainable Development Objectives and number 1 in citations according to the World University Rankings.

4. Beni Suef University:

Beni Suef University was established based on a Presidential Decree No. (84) in 2005 and resigned from the prestigious University of Cairo. The number of graduates since the start of the study in Beni Suef faculties till 2007 is 62321 graduates from various faculties and institutes. Through self- evaluation of its educational programs, Beni-Suef University seeks to advance a permanent development in its educational process, promote the quality of performance, and obtain an outstanding position among local, regional and international universities.

5. Zagzig University

Zagazig University was established in 1970 contributing to the renaissance of Egypt and its global position on education. It began as a branch of Ain Shams University and was the seventh university set up in Egypt. It has colleges of agriculture, trade, veterinary medicine, human medicine, education and engineering. Its aim is to become a distinguished Egyptian Public University and has plans to build and expand to a Centre for Graduate Studies and Research in Oboor City.

6. University of California at Santa Cruz

The University of California, Santa Cruz, has earned national distinction as a university with high-impact research and an uncommon commitment to teaching and public service. A campus with world-class facilities and one of the most visually spectacular settings in higher education, UC Santa Cruz provides unparalleled opportunities for students to learn through hands-on experience. A commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement are also central to UCSC’s core values. Undergraduates pursue course work in 65 majors, and graduate students work toward master’s degrees, doctoral degrees, and graduate certificates in 41 academic programs. 7. Utah State University

Since its founding in 1888, Utah State University has evolved from a small-town college to a thriving research university respected around the world. Students can choose from an array of academic and social opportunities at a university known throughout the world for its intellectual and technological leadership. USU is the #5 public university in the nation in “National Universities Rankings 2017” by Washington Monthly (2017). The mission of Utah State University is to be one of the nation’s premier student-centered land-grant and space-grant universities by fostering the principle that academics come first, by cultivating diversity of thought and culture, and by serving the public through learning, discovery and engagement.

8. Temple University

Temple University is a public institution that was founded in 1884. The university has nine campuses – ranging across urban and suburban Philadelphia to branches in Rome and Japan. Its main campus is in the heart of the Philadelphia, the largest city in Pennsylvania and the fifth largest in the US. Temple University’s ranking in the 2021 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities, #103. The school runs a variety of research centers and institutes, including the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Institute, the Center for Sustainable Communities and the Center for Asian Health.

9. Washington State University

Washington State College was established in 1890 as a land-grant institution. It has become a distinguished public research university, but its mission remains rooted in accessibility and public service. The University aims to advance knowledge through creative research and scholarship across a wide range of academic disciplines. It aims also to extend knowledge through innovative educational programs in which emerging scholars are mentored to realize their highest potential and assume roles of leadership, responsibility, and service to society.  The university purposes applying knowledge through local and global engagement that will improve quality of life and enhance the economy of the state, nation, and world.
